Q & A

Elite Structural Movers provides a wide range of Structural Moving & Lifting Services

Q: How much does it cost to raise a house or building?

A: In today’s economy, so many of our decisions come down to cost. We know that this is the first question that comes to people’s minds when considering an elevation project. Because every home is different, there is no cookie-cutter cost. There are many factors that go into calculating the price of a building elevation, including the structure’s size, shape, building type, location, accessibility (working room), desired height, etc. We would love to work with you to provide you with a (totally free!) quote. Our quote process involves getting some information from you about the project to provide you with a cost estimate. If you decide that an elevation project may be right for you, then we’ll visit your site and inspect your structure to ensure that we’re giving you the best possible price.

Q: What are the benefits of raising a house or building?

A: In our years of experience, flood prevention is the Number 1 reason why our customers have decided to raise their homes. Experiencing a flooded home can take a huge financial and emotional toll on yourself and your family. Raising your house above the Base Flood Elevation for its location can significantly reduce the risk of flooding. Elevating a building is also a fantastic way to add square footage to the structure without increasing its footprint. This makes it a great alternative for anyone who would like to add on to their home without sacrificing their yard. Elevating older homes for foundational repair can help extend the life of the home and hold off the need for repairs from foundation settling.

Q: Do you perform ALL the services for the elevation?

A: We specialize in raising and moving structures. With rare exceptions, we do not typically construct new foundations. However, our knowledgeable team can guide you in the elevation process from the prep stage to completing the foundation. For our customers in Eastern North Carolina, we can recommend local foundation contractors, HVAC contractors, electricians, and licensed General Contractors for more extensive home remodeling projects.

Q: How much does it cost to move a structure?

A: As with our elevation services, moving a structure is a complex process that involves a lot of factors. We consider the size, age, structure type and building composition, location, distance to be moved, etc. when determining a price for relocation projects. Our quote process involves a preliminary phone consultation and a site visit, including an inspection of the structure, both sites, and reviewing possible relocation routes. If you’re considering a relocation project, our team would be thrilled to provide you with a free estimate!

Q: Can any structure be moved anywhere?

A: No, not every structure can be moved to any location. The ability to move a structure depends largely on the size and shape of the structure, the location, and the distance of the relocation. With temporary modifications (roof removal, separating the structure into smaller pieces, etc.), even most large structures can be moved at least some distance. However, limitations associated with location of the properties such as weighted bridges, railroads crossings, or other unchangeable road features may prevent a structure from being moved to a specific destination. Our knowledgeable team can review the various factors and tell you if a relocation is possible for your structure.

Q: Will moving my building jeopardize its structural integrity?

A: No. If your building is already structurally sound, then an experienced mover can load it and move it in such a way that the integrity of the building is not affected. You may experience some minor cracking in drywall, plaster, tile, or brick during the relocation, particularly if the structure is currently unlevel. This is to be expected and many of these superficial cracks may close when the structure is set down on the new foundation. Our team takes pride in leaving your structure as close to perfect as possible.

Q: What permits are required and who is responsible for securing them?

A: A permit is required to move the structure along state-maintained roads, but not usually along private roads or property. Such moving permits are typically issued by the State Department of Transportation and, as the licensed mover, we would be responsible for obtaining them. Building permits are required when constructing a foundation and are the responsibility of the homeowner or licensed General Contractor.

Q: Do you move mobile homes?

A: It depends. Our license allows us to move structures that are 16 feet or wider at its widest point. This allows us to move doublewides in one piece. We do not move singlewide mobile homes.
